In
February, 1888, Vincent van Gogh decides to settle
down in Arles. In Provence, everything amazes him,
the sun, the orchards Flowers,
the arlésiennes beautiful. He works,
with the grant of his brotherThéo
a lot, whosends himtubes of Paintings
and canvases. Every
morning, it leaves its lodging house, heavily charged
and circulates indefatigably in the region, in search
of motives and Produced
a leader of work after the other one.
"
It is the emotion, the sincerity of the natural
feeling which drives(guides) our hand, and when
this emotion is sometimes so strong as We
work without noticing that we work, when, sometimes,
the bows come and are linked, As
the words in a conversation or in a letter, you
should not forget that it was not still so and
that in The
future also, many disheartening days ago without
the slightest inspiration."
These
sentences extracted from the letter 504 seem prophetic
seen the collapse which will occur at the end of
this year. Its
friend Gauguin joins him. He paints Vincent
in full work on one of the pictures of the
series Sunflowers. In spite of Their
friendship, the ceaseless quarrels succeed, on December
23rd in the crisis of Vincent which threatens his
friend with a razor In
hand. Heit eventually cuts an ear which he
puts in an envelope before offering himto a
prostitute.
It is evident that The
arrival from Gauguin to Arles played an important
role in the psychological collapse of Van Gogh.
Two Personalities
collided and were engaged very rough
fights.Through
Gauguin, his artistic genius is more than
questioned. He works until the psychic destruction
and Physical
appearance. Victim of paranoiac frenzies,
he is subject to violent crises. A request of
the inhabitants of Arles reaches in Authorities,
asking them to intern Vincent because he constitutes
a " danger for the community ".
At the
end of the month, In
February, Van Gogh is interned. Completely conscious,
he sees itself locked; we do not grant
him either books, or painting, or even
Hispipe. In
May, 1890, he enters of his own free will the
institution of Saint-Rémy-de-Provence. In
the atmosphere Oppressive
and melancholic of the old walls, the painter concentrates
completely on himself and the psychic forces Which
bewitch him.
They
act on him as far as he can make a boss in his pictures.
Van Gogh contemplates his universe Inside,
he does not know either diversions, or human
contacts and he naturally gave up his former
"poisons". Sound Diligence
in the easel was doubtless never so big as during
its stay to Saint-Rémy.Van
Gogh became himself his own artistic legend. He
offers a new interpretation of the unity of the
art and of her Life.
The artist and the man meet themselves only in the
madness, freed from the small daily conflicts.
Theo has him at once Understood
and formulated in one of the letters: " your
last canvases strongly gave me to think
about your state Of
spirit as you made them. There is in all a force
of the colour which you had still never affected
To
there; but you still went farther, and if there
are painters who look for the symbol on the road
of The
change of the shape by the violence, I find it expressed
in many of your clothes(canvases) but as your head
has of Work,
as you dared to go to the limit extreme, there where
we inevitably have to feel dizzy ". Lasting
The
year of his internment, he paints hundred
and fifty canvases, among which we count
numerous leaders of work.
He
leaves the hospital to go to Auvers-sur-Oise
where the Doctor Gachet, the collector, the friend
of numerous painters Impressionists,
agreed to take care of him and to look after
him. He is going to work as a hanging maniac
two Month,
producing more than seventy pictures.
July
27th, 1890, in the field of wheat which he painted
some days before, hegets out a blow of revolver.
He dies two Days
later in the arms of his(her) brother Theo, leaving
him only heir of his life, its work. The indissoluble
affinity of Two
brothers extends beyond the death. Two months hardly
after the death of Vincent, Theo sinks in his turn
in her Insanity
not to be cured of it any more.
