Some history

The village holds its name of the saint of the vivarais ANDEOL. The naming SAINT ANDIOL is relatively recent because in the papers of the 17th century, we find The shape Holy Andéol (the Latin shape being Sancti-Andéoli).

In 3rd century, Arles having been raised(found) from the row(rank) of colony(summer camp) Roman, Saint-Andiol was a part of this colony(summer camp). In 311, the becoming Christianity Religion of state, Marseille dominates with the bishop's palace of Onesus. So, Saint-Andiol It until was under the dependence sometimes from Arles, sometimes from Marseille and 10th century.

In the next century, while small conflicts burst between Arles and Marseille, An event will have its importance in the future of the village: the foundation of The abbey of Holy Victor. Saint-Andiol, bequeathed by Guillaume 1st in this Abbey, becomes a private property protected by clerics.

The Castle

This ancient big house in the massive and important look has Successively belonged to the families of Albe, Varadier and Estourmel by The marriage of each of daughters' them.
