| History The history of Mouries joins the past of les Baux de Provence to which it
belong until the revolution. Situated on the Aurelienne road, Mouries, during
the first century become the roman station under the name of TERRICIAE. Then,
due to different Moorish invasions that devastated the Provence, the name of
Mouries would take its roots in the word MORERIOE, ( Les Maures).
The prosperity of the area was favoured by the draining of the swamps and by
bringing water from the durance river which allowed ovine rearing, culture of
wine and olive growing.
