Situated in north of Salon de Provence,
built in the ancient river bed of the Durance and leaning against a beautiful
hill side ( from which one can get to the GR6 to discover the Cales site ).
Gate
of the Alpilles, Lamanon is an enchanting village where a nice quality of life
and conviviality are sure values to its residents.
In 1745, the marquis Mark
Tripoli de Panisse obtained from the King the right to buid the village. Fifty
houses were then built close to the castle for the agricultural workers and
their families. In 1660, one of the lords of Cadenet built the castle.
The
church was finished in 1783 and restaured in 1988. The 13 th of may 1557, Adam
de Craponne, engineer of the king, deviated the bed of the Durance river
downstream from Cadenet so to irrigate the village and to allow an economical
expansion.
The "LAMANON" family was
confered a title of nobility in 1572 as lords of Lamanon. The two most members
of the family were Auguste ( 1748-1820 ) and Robert ( 1752-1787 ).
Robert was a
botanist and a physician. He was killed by natives in Maouna.
