| Some
History
Fredéric
Mistral
is
born
in
the
mas
of
the
Judge
to
some
kilometres
of
Maillane
where
he
will
go
out
eighty
four
years
later.
Mistral
crosses
at
first
some
years
to
the
boarding
school
of
the
abbey
of
Frigolet,
not
far
from
Tarascon.
"
A former(ancient)
convent
was
situated
in
the
montagnette,
he
writes,
wild
garden
of
aromatic
plants
and
opened
paradise,
for
his
pupils,
in
transparent
cage..
"
It
is
in
Avignon,
then
Nimes,
where
he
crosses
his
high
school
diploma,
where
Mistral
pursues
its
studies.
He(it)
tries(feels)
a total
homesickness
of
his
Provence,
the
true,
the
one
the
language
of
which
we
make
every
effort
to
make
him
forget.
To
Aix,
Mistral
undertakes
in
law
studies
not
to
displease
his(her)
father,
but
it
quickly
returns
towards
Maillane
and
takes
a firm
resolution:
"
revive
in
Provence
the
feeling
of
race,
provoke
one
resurrection
by
the
restoration
of
the
mother
and
historic
tongue
of
my
country,
return
the
fashion
to
the
Provenþal
by
the
impulse
and
the
flame
of
divine
poetry
".
In
1852,
following
the
death
of
his(her)
father,
Mistral
comes
to
settle
down
to
Maillane
with
his(her)
mother,
in
the
house
of
the
Lizard.
When
he
gets
married
some
years
later,
he(it)
buys
the
house
opposite
and
will
not
move
it
any
more.
It
is
a little
bit
before
this
moment
when
is
born
the
dée
of
the
félibrige,
a literary
school
created
by
Mistral
on
May
21st,
1854,
with
six
other
authors
burning
defenders
of
the
Provençal
language.
The
passion
of
Mistral
for
its
Provence
does
not
seem
to
have
of
limit.
In
1859,
Mistral
publishes
"Mireille",
a chief
work
of
which
it
is
necessary
to
note
that
Mistral
itself
associated
him(it)
to
the
Virgo:
"
I am
persuaded
that
"
Miréio
",
Mireille,
is
Marie's
name,
deriving
from
the
Hebrew
Myriam
and
provençalisé
by
the
Jews
of
Provence,
very
former(ancient)
in
the
country
".
"Mireille"
is
greeted
by
the
whole
world,
and
by
some
as
the
masterpiece,
the
most
authentic
since
the
big
gréco-Roman
tragedies.
Some
years
later,
Charles
Gounod's
operatic
adaptation,
will
make
of
"Mireille"
a real
world
monument.
Seven
years
later,
Mistral
writes
"Calendal",
in
whom
still
appears
the
wild
will
of
independence
of
the
Provençal.
In
1863,
after
France
was
the
object
of
a separation
by
department,
a Southern
hitorien,
Louis
Capefique
writes:
"
we
shall
never
be
children
of
the
Mouths
of
Rhone,
demarcation
of
whim,
we
are
Provençals
".
After
mas
of
the
Judge
and
the
house
of
the
Lizard,
Frédéric
Mistral
will
live
only
in
a single
house
up
to
its
death,
in
the
one
that
it
occupies
with
his
.Entourée
wife
of
a garden,
she
is
situated
in
front
of
the
house
of
the
Lizard,
where
lives(lies)
her
mother,
and
Mistral
will
not
move
it,
receiving
very
numerous
visits.
The
most
surprising
will
come
from
Buffalo-Bill
which
crosses(exceeds)
the
ocean
to
come
to
greet
poet.
He(it)
leaves
his(its)
dog
in
present
with
Mistral.
This
meeting
explains
that
some
years
later
a group
of
Indian
comes
to
meet
Mistral
the
papers
of
which
have
too
crosses(exceeds)
the
ocean.
In
his(her,its)
house
of
Maillane,
become
museum,
we
can
discover
the
bow
and
the
arrows
offered
by
Sioux
to
Mistral.
In
heart
of
the
Provençal,
Mistral
remains
the
biggest,
a poet
and
a writer,
to
have
dedicated
its
life
and
its
work
to
its
region
and
to
his(her)
language.
